We got up early and made our lunch and packed our backpacks and then had brekky and coffee and took off to Thredbo. We wanted to get there a bit early to book a tour to go to the top of Mt Kosciuszko with, since they were only $10 more than doing it on your own…
We got up there later than I’d planned but still managed to get the last 2 places on the tour, fortunately.
The tour kicked off about 10 minutes later, starting with a chairlift ride of about 15 minutes’ duration, which takes you to Eagles Nest.
From there it’s a 6.5km walk to the summit. The scenery is very beautiful, but not terribly changeable. The hike was long, windy but we had quite a warm day at the top. I was very happy to have my windproof jacket though!
It took us about 2.5 hours to get to the summit. It was filled with school kids! They were having their lunch up there, just as we were. Luckily, they left before we did, so we had a chance to take some photos without having them full of kids:
Afterwards, we made our way back down. The trip back only took about 1.5 hours to the chairlift.
We were quite weary by this time! Especially the soles of my feet! So painful. They are still throbbing now, 3 hours later! Though this didn’t stop me getting out for photos of the river on the way back to the motel:
Or stopping in at Woolies for some Radox for our spa bath. Ah!
