We had a bit of a lie-in this morning…7.30! We had breakfast at the hotel and planned what we were going to do today. The buses are free on a weekend (or maybe just this weekend – we didn’t quite understand), so we caught the bus up to the Kirchberg area. The bus turned off unexpectedly, so we had to walk a bit of the way back, but it was a pleasant walk. Cold though! I was really wishing for my beanie today!
Our first destination was at Fort Thuengen. It was quite difficult to find, actually, with all the construction going on around here. But we managed. There was a charge to go in, so we didn’t bother.
We walked on through a lovely little forest path into Pfaffenthal area and then back up towards Centre.
A cat was watching us:
We continued our trek, including up through a little park to finally get to the old castle area:
and then wandered into town, looking for lunch. The place I wanted to go was closed (a lot of places were, weirdly) but we did find a restaurant with Alsation cuisine. Very nice. It happened to be in this building:
After that, we walked towards the ducal palace where we discovered they do tours. We walked up to the square to the information office to buy one but they were sold out for today, so tomorrow morning at 9am, we’re on the tour!
We walked past the town hall and a few statues and the cathedral:
and headed towards the Casemates Bock again for some views. We didn’t go into them and thus had trouble making our way down to Grund which we saw enticing us from up top.
We did finally manage to find our way down there and celebrated with a beer. 🙂
Before walking past the abbey church (of course I had to go in!):
and on through the gorgeous park with its river and bridges and weeping willows etc, etc:
We then wanted to go up to some towers we could see – can’t find out what they’re called, but there’s three of them!
After that, we were exhausted and just headed back down to near where we had the beer, in order to catch the bus back:
…which we did. Bought some liquid dinner (still full from lunch!) and headed back to the room, to finally, finally catch up my blog! Yay!
