We headed off around 9.30 to get some provisions for lunch (and more coffee) and then it was off to the bush.
Namadgi National Park is only about 40 minutes away from Canberra (depending on where you start!) and apparently full of locals on the weekend. During the week (it’s Monday), not so much. We had every location we went to entirely to ourselves. There were no cars parked at any of the locations we stopped at, nor any of the others we passed.
Our first priority before hiking was an early lunch, since Donald was famished. After that, we strapped on our backpacks and camera and off we went. The hike to Boomboora Rocks was quite strenuous with lots of stairs, but it was so worth it for the view! And the smells – I wish you could photograph the scent of the bush!
The return trip was much easier! But the insects were a nuisance. Even insect repellent didn’t really help.
The road in the park:
We then headed off to the Orroral. We missed the turnoff for the Homestead so continued on to the Tracking Station – not really worth bothering with, since it’s just the concrete foundations left – and some old trees:
Next stop on the way back was the Orroral Homestead. You park your car about 500 meters away. I took a few pictures while walking towards it and next thing we saw a whole mob of ‘roos bounding away. There must have been at least 50! Some were more game and stuck around – one male was all standing tall and posturing. He hopped off when we kept coming too!
Next and final stop for today was Rendezvous Creek – we didn’t actually go to the end of this track, because we were tired and didn’t think the view could outdo the one at Boomboora anyway:
On the way back, I dropped Donald off at the chiropractor and then chatted to our hosts at our accommodation for a while, until Donald came home. We decided to go to Marble & Grain for dinner – it’s near the city and known for their steaks, according to our hosts and friends. And obviously lots of other people, because it was packed, even though it was a Monday night and after 8pm! The food (though expensive) was great! The steak was full of flavour and cooked perfectly. And there was bone marrow on the side! Mmmmmm.
