The Scenic Rim

I was invited to come ‘camping’ at Maroon dam for the long weekend. Since I already had prior commitments on Saturday, my German visitor and I drove out there on Sunday. The Scenic Rim is quite scenic!

We stayed at a place called Camp Pointro. You can hire the house and it sleeps up to 55, for about $15 a night per person. It includes a big kitchen and downstairs toilet and shower rooms. You have to provide your own linens and bedding – it’s a lot like going camping!
Ally took us four-wheel-driving (Barbara’s first time!) up the Mount Barney track. It’s quite beautiful:

There’s a sort of a lookout area at the end of the track – at least as far as you can drive. There’s some great views down to the dam and out to a couple of the other mountains in the range:

We spent the afternoon lazing around the dam, watching the people go by:

I wandered around the camp before sunset, getting pictures:

I couldn’t resist taking a shot from the balcony by moonlight:

The next morning, we decided to get photos of the open-air church at the lakeside:

before heading home again. We took the scenic route home, via Christmas Creek and Mt Tamborine:
