Time to go to Germany. Our accommodation was directly across the road from this castle with a lovely park. Its opening hours were not convenient for us any other day, so we waited for it to open and went to check it out. It was raining lightly when we got there, but it stopped, fortunately. We couldn’t see inside because that was only with a tour and we didn’t want to wait around for it. The gardens really were lovely though, so we wandered through for a little bit:
We had a bit of fun with one of the benches:
There’s some sort of art installation going on, too:
More from the garden:
We headed off to Germany then. We wanted to see some things on the way, though, so stopped at Kleve (Anne of Cleves! Not that she was born here, but oh well!). We parked near the castle there, but it’s now the council chambers. So it didn’t look that interesting. We walked further into town to look for some lunch and ended up getting pizzas. They were huge! But we still managed to eat one each. I discovered that there’s a beautiful park and spa house that is now a museum, so we headed there after lunch:
We continued on the road to Marl. It was getting late, so we did our usual trick of just looking at the outside of the Moyland castle – not so late that we didn’t have to pay admission to the gardens though:
I really liked these closeups:
Then to Marl, to stay with Daniel and Silke, and to catch up with other friends.
